As the team sets its sights on Season 3 of the highly competitive tournament, Warner is determined to play an even bigger role in building on their runner-up finish from the previous edition.
Reflecting on his debut season with the Dubai Capitals, Warner expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s competitive structure and praised its unique blend of international and local talent. “I enjoyed the competition. It was challenging from an opening batter’s perspective and good for the bowlers. The way we fought and came back strongly towards the end of the tournament was fantastic,” he remarked.
The DP World ILT20’s squad rules, which allow nine international players per team alongside at least two UAE players, impressed Warner. “It’s rare to see such great talent from around the world mix with local talent. It strengthens the competition and offers local players invaluable experience. Everyone is talking about this tournament globally, and many want to be a part of it,” he added.
Praising UAE cricketers, Warner highlighted Haider Ali’s contributions to the Dubai Capitals’ campaign last season. “Haider Ali stood out for us. Though he didn’t get many opportunities, he seized the moment when it mattered. He was an integral part of our team, and I was thrilled for him,” he said.
Warner also shared his love for the Dubai International Stadium, calling it one of his favorite venues in the world. “The atmosphere is electrifying, with loud fans and amazing light displays. The aesthetics of the ground make it a fantastic place to play cricket,” he noted.
Recalling his fondest memory in the UAE, Warner mentioned Australia’s historic T20 World Cup win in 2021. “Winning the World Cup here was unforgettable. The semi-final and final were nail-biting, and the atmosphere was incredible. It’s truly a special place to play cricket,” he said.
Discussing the playing conditions, Warner lauded the wickets and ground dimensions in the UAE. “The wickets can be challenging initially, but once you settle in, you can play freely. The boundary dimensions are perfect for a batsman compared to Australia. I just enjoy playing here,” he commented.
