Kathmandu, Nepal: Rising Nepalese cricketer Pratish Gharti Chhetri impressed with the ball in the recently concluded Hong Kong Sixes tournament, claiming seven wickets in four matches. The 20-year-old left-arm pacer stood out with key performances against cricketing giants England and Australia, showcasing his potential on the global stage.

Reflecting on the tournament, Pratish praised the fast-paced format for its unique challenges and the mental resilience it demands from bowlers. “I really enjoyed being a part of Hong Kong 6s and playing the format, but it’s very challenging for the bowlers,” he said. “The positive thing is that when you play at bigger grounds with nine fielders, you feel more confident as a bowler. It makes a bowler mentally tough.”

Pratish emphasized the importance of strategy in the format, particularly when it comes to outsmarting batters. “Executing the plan is the key. The bowlers were able to deceive the batters with slower ones, and this is one of the things I was able to do well,” he explained.

This year marked Nepal’s debut in the Hong Kong Sixes, and the young cricketer believes the format has the potential to expand globally due to its fast-paced and spectator-friendly nature. “We can see the format being played at a global level. It’s fun, attracts fans, and matches conclude in a short span of time. It’s very entertaining,” he said.

Pratish expressed gratitude to Hong Kong Cricket for providing Nepal with the opportunity to compete in the prestigious event. “We had some of the finest teams competing against each other. Overall, it was great exposure,” he added.

Inspired to pursue cricket after watching Nepal’s performance in the 2014 T20 World Cup, Pratish draws motivation from Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. Recalling his interaction with them during the Asia Cup, Pratish shared, “Meeting Virat Kohli was a dream come true. He motivated us by highlighting the importance of mindset in succeeding at the highest level. Hardik Pandya inspires me because he is an all-rounder, and I strive to be one too.”

With his strong performance in the Hong Kong Sixes, Pratish Gharti Chhetri has not only earned recognition but also underscored Nepal’s growing presence in international cricket.
