Dubai, UAE – Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has lauded the transformative power of youth on the occasion of International Youth Day 2025, highlighting their pivotal role in redefining progress and addressing global challenges through local action. In a compelling commentary, Her Highness underscored the unique blend of curiosity, creativity, and determination that young people bring to the world.
“There is something about the way young people move through the world with the curiosity of what might be achieved, reminding us of our own first encounters with possibility,” Her Highness stated. She observed that while their impact may not always be overtly announced, it manifests in “quiet but powerful ways, by challenging a habit, reimagining a process, or offering an idea no one thought to consider.” Their collective efforts in creativity, connection, and collaboration are making progress “more inclusive, inventive, and responsive to the challenges we face.”
The theme of this year’s International Youth Day, ‘Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,’ resonates deeply with the ongoing initiatives in the UAE and globally. Sheikha Latifa noted that across the nation’s cities, young individuals are actively converting global challenges into local opportunities, integrating hope into policy and tangible progress into daily life.
Illustrating this point, she cited examples such as “a student-led climate solution, a neighbourhood coding programme, or a grassroots art initiative,” emphasizing that “innovation, when grounded in empathy, can transform entire systems from the ground up.”
Her Highness concluded her commentary by drawing a parallel to the visionary leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who once said: “Our value in life is defined by what we do.” She affirmed that she sees this same spirit reflected in the youth of the UAE—in their “courage to act, their creativity to imagine, and their determination to build a better future.”
Sheikha Latifa called upon society to actively support young people: “Let us listen to them, invest in them, and walk alongside them, knowing that when youth lead, the world moves forward.”
