Dubai, UAE – Cybersecurity teams in the UAE are facing an escalating threat landscape, with increasingly sophisticated attacks powered by artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced persistent threats (APTs). This has rendered traditional reactive security measures insufficient, prompting a necessary shift towards proactive strategies that leverage threat intelligence (TI). According to a recent Kaspersky study, while an overwhelming majority (90%) of IT professionals in the UAE are satisfied with their available threat intelligence, significant room for improvement remains, particularly in the areas of integration, speed, and relevance.

Threat intelligence is emerging as a critical tool for organizations to stay ahead of cybercriminals. The study highlights that TI goes beyond mere data collection, providing actionable insights into adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). By understanding attacker behavior, security teams can detect threats earlier, refine defensive strategies, and respond more effectively to incidents.

The findings reveal a diverse landscape of TI sourcing in the UAE. Nearly half (46%) of companies rely on specialized TI vendors for curated intelligence, while close to a third (32%) participate in threat data exchanges with other organizations. A further 22% gather intelligence from open sources, underscoring the widespread recognition of TI’s value.

For threat intelligence to be truly effective, it must be timely and actionable. The study found that 40% of respondents in the META region prioritize timely intelligence that reflects the latest threats. Another 40% emphasize the need for TI that can be seamlessly integrated into security workflows, while 36% stress the importance of better analysis, including prioritization and de-duplication, to make the intelligence truly usable.

Despite the high satisfaction levels, IT professionals identified several key areas for improvement. The most pressing need, cited by 20% of respondents, is easier integration into existing security processes. This would allow TI to be more seamlessly incorporated into daily operations. Furthermore, 12% of professionals in the META region highlighted the need for better analysis to improve accessibility, making intelligence easier for security teams to interpret and act upon.

Speed is another critical factor, with 12% emphasizing the need for faster intelligence delivery to ensure timely responses to emerging threats. Additionally, 8% called for more robust comparative threat analysis across different systems, enabling a better understanding of the context and relationships between various threats.

Beyond integration and usability, quality and accuracy remain a high priority. According to the survey, 32% of respondents stressed the importance of high-quality intelligence that is precise, relevant, and reliable, to avoid false positives and missed threats. An equal percentage, 32%, also seek more comprehensive coverage to ensure no critical threats slip through the cracks, highlighting the need for a broader scope of intelligence sources and insights.

In today’s challenging threat landscape, reliable and expert-curated intelligence is essential. While many organizations are satisfied with their current capabilities, they are actively seeking opportunities to enhance their TI programs. By investing in better integration, speed, and relevance, businesses can significantly improve their ability to respond swiftly and accurately to emerging threats, thereby strengthening their overall security posture. Partnering with trusted providers, such as Kaspersky, which offers expert-curated insights and real-time intelligence, empowers businesses to navigate the complex cyber landscape with confidence.
