Muscat, Oman – Oman is set to become a premier hub for endurance sports in the Middle East following a multi-year global strategic partnership between Experience Oman and the IRONMAN Group, announced on Thursday. The collaboration aims to significantly expand the presence of triathlon events in the region, attracting thousands of athletes and bolstering the Sultanate’s adventure tourism sector.
The agreement, which runs until 2030, is a major milestone for Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, positioning the country as a leading destination for world-class sporting events. Officials anticipate the partnership will generate substantial direct economic returns by drawing high-income athletes and their companions. It is also expected to create new job opportunities by involving 100 per cent Omani-owned companies in event execution and supply chains, thereby enhancing local content and showcasing the country’s unique natural and cultural assets.

His Excellency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, expressed pride in the new alliance. “We are proud that the Sultanate of Oman is the first-ever official global partner as a tourism destination for IRONMAN races,” he stated. “This partnership reflects the Ministry’s vision to make the Sultanate the premier destination for adventure tourism in the region. It will also help stimulate sports tourism, support the national economy, and empower local companies through direct and sustainable job opportunities.”
The partnership will bring several high-profile events to the country, including:
- Experience Oman IRONMAN 70.3 Salalah: The inaugural event under the new partnership, scheduled for October 25, 2025.
- Experience Oman IRONMAN 70.3 Muscat: Set for February 2026, this race will be the Middle East Championship for the 70.3 distance, offering professional athletes an opportunity to qualify for the World Championship.
- Full-distance IRONMAN race in Muscat: The first full-distance IRONMAN race in the Middle East will be held annually in November. The course will be designed to highlight Muscat’s iconic landmarks and cultural heritage, with routes for swimming, cycling, and running.

Scott Dimeo, CEO of the IRONMAN Group, highlighted Oman’s natural alignment with the spirit of the global endurance community. “We are excited about our partnership with Experience Oman to deliver world-class racing experiences in the region and showcase Oman’s unique beauty and rich culture,” Dimeo said. “It is a fully integrated adventure destination that aligns perfectly with the spirit of our global endurance sports community.”

The collaboration is a strategic move to leverage Oman’s diverse landscapes and rich heritage to attract a new segment of tourists while fostering a thriving sports economy within the country.
