Dubai, UAE – India’s top-order batting powerhouse, spearheaded by a blistering knock from opener Abhishek Sharma, secured a commanding six-wicket victory over Pakistan in their Asia Cup Super Four clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The win marks India’s second successive triumph over their arch-rivals in the tournament, underlining their dominance and strengthening their position in the Super Four stage.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decision was vindicated as his bowlers kept Pakistan’s scoring rate in check. Pakistan’s innings was anchored by a composed half-century from opener Sahibzada Farhan, who top-scored with a polished 58 from 45 deliveries. He was supported by Saim Ayub (21) and Mohammad Nawaz (21), but the team struggled to build significant partnerships, ultimately posting a total of 171 for five in their 20 overs.
For India, pacer Shivam Dube was the most effective bowler, claiming two crucial wickets, while wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and all-rounder Hardik Pandya each picked up one.

In response, India’s chase was a masterclass in aggressive batting. Opener Abhishek Sharma set the tone with an explosive 74 off just 39 balls, decorated with six fours and five sixes. His partnership with vice-captain Shubman Gill (47 off 28 balls) provided a solid foundation, with the duo putting on 105 for the first wicket.
Despite a brief wobble that saw skipper Suryakumar Yadav dismissed for a duck and Shubman Gill clean bowled by Faheem Ashraf, India’s middle order held their nerve. Tilak Varma (30*) and Hardik Pandya (7*) calmly saw their side home, reaching the target of 172 in the 19th over.
For Pakistan, pacer Haris Rauf was the standout performer with the ball, taking two wickets. Faheem Ashraf and Abrar Ahmed each claimed a wicket.

The defeat is a major setback for Pakistan, who are now left to regroup and reassess their strategy for their remaining Super Four matches. While Sahibzada Farhan’s individual effort was a highlight, it was not enough to counter India’s collective batting prowess. India, meanwhile, will head into their next fixture with confidence, solidifying their status as a frontrunner for the Asia Cup title.
