Dubai, UAE – The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) celebrated the International Day of Sign Languages, observed annually on September 23, as part of its firm commitment to promoting human communication and empowering people of determination to achieve full inclusion in society. This global occasion aims to raise awareness about the importance of sign languages in ensuring the human rights of the deaf community and to reaffirm their role as a bridge for mutual understanding without barriers.
In this context, GDRFA Dubai staff at Dubai International Airport – Terminal 3 welcomed all travelers using sign language, whether from the People of Determination community or the general public. The initiative aimed to promote inclusion among different segments of society, introduce travelers to sign language, and raise awareness of its importance. This gesture reflected Dubai’s humanitarian image as a city that supports all groups. Counters dedicated to this initiative were decorated with flags displaying the phrase “Welcome to Dubai” in sign language, along with awareness stickers symbolizing the values of inclusivity and openness.

Commenting on the event, Brigadier Abdul Samad Hussein Al Blooshi, Assistant Director General for the Sector of Leadership and Future, said: “Sign language is more than just a means of communication; it is a humanitarian message that embodies the values of compassion and coexistence upon which Dubai was founded. Our celebration of this international day reflects our commitment to ensuring that our services are inclusive and accessible to everyone, including people of determination, and reaffirms that Dubai is a city of humanity—open to all with respect and dignity.”
He added: “At GDRFA Dubai, we consider the integration of people of determination into our services and initiatives an essential part of our institutional responsibility. At the same time, we are keen to promote the culture of sign language among all segments of society, so that Dubai becomes a global model for inclusion and human communication without exception.”

This celebration reflects GDRFA Dubai’s commitment to a sustainable approach that places people of determination at the heart of its services, while also promoting a culture of human communication across all groups. It ensures that peace and mutual respect remain a daily language in Dubai—the city that welcomes everyone without exception.
