Riyadh: King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) is turning heads at the Global Health Exhibition 2025 with a live demonstration of one of the world’s most advanced neurological tools a 3D brain-mapping system that precisely locates the source of epileptic seizures.
Visitors to the hospital’s pavilion can experience an interactive simulation of Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), a technique that allows doctors to pinpoint the exact origin of seizures within the brain’s complex circuitry. This precision enables the development of highly targeted treatment plans, offering new hope for patients with epilepsy.
The procedure involves implanting ultra-fine electrodes deep into the brain using a sophisticated robotic system. These electrodes record electrical activity from various regions, which is then used to construct a dynamic 3D map.
This map visualises not only where seizures begin but also how they spread, acting as a GPS for the brain. It provides surgeons with a critical guide, allowing them to plan interventions that remove or disable the seizure-causing tissue while meticulously avoiding areas responsible for vital functions like movement and speech.
The showcase comes on the heels of a significant international accolade. KFSHRC in Riyadh has been ranked among the top 150 hospitals worldwide for Neurology in Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026, cementing its status as a global leader in neuroscience.
The hospital’s reputation for excellence is further solidified by its recent recognition as the most valuable healthcare brand in the region by Brand Finance. It also boasts a #1 ranking in the Middle East and North Africa and 15th globally among the world’s top 250 academic medical centres for 2025.
By integrating this state-of-the-art SEEG technology, KFSHRC reinforces its position as a national and regional reference centre, building intelligent models of care that seamlessly connect pioneering scientific research with life-changing clinical practice.
