Dubai: In a powerful display of inclusion and innovation, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) and Huawei joined forces at Dubai Ride 2025, uniting technology and sport to celebrate empowerment through movement.
Paralympic athletes from the Dubai Club for People of Determination took to Sheikh Zayed Road alongside thousands of cyclists, testing Huawei’s newly launched Wheelchair Mode on the HUAWEI Watch GT 6 Series — a breakthrough feature in wearable accessibility technology.
Unveiled earlier at GITEX Global 2025, the Wheelchair Mode was developed following a discussion between Majid Rashed, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, and Huawei engineers. The innovative mode enables wheelchair users to accurately monitor push frequency, speed, distance, and effort — transforming how movement and wellness are measured for people of determination.

“Seeing our athletes take part in Dubai Ride using the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 with Wheelchair Mode is truly inspiring and a proud moment for all of us,” said Majid Rashed. “This partnership demonstrates how technology can transform lives and enable athletes of determination to participate fully and confidently. Huawei’s commitment to inclusion reflects the true spirit of sportsmanship and innovation.”
During the event, athletes equipped with the new smartwatches showcased the technology’s real-world potential, demonstrating how data-driven insights can enhance participation, motivation, and self-awareness across communities.
Bruce Li, Country Manager, Huawei Consumer Business Group UAE, said: “What began as a simple idea has evolved into a meaningful innovation that empowers athletes and everyday users alike. The Dubai Ride was the perfect platform to see how the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 can support wheelchair users in tracking their performance and improving their overall fitness journey.”

The collaboration reflects Huawei’s broader mission to innovate with purpose. Through ongoing partnerships with the APC and organizations supporting People of Determination, Huawei aims to create smart health experiences that are more inclusive, accurate, and human-centered — ensuring that every individual, regardless of ability, benefits from the transformative power of technology.
