Sharjah, UAE – The Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) has expanded its international footprint in intellectual property protection by signing two landmark bilateral agreements with copyright agencies in Australia and New Zealand. The deals were inked during the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO) World Congress held recently in Singapore.

The agreements with Copyright Licensing New Zealand (CLNZ) and Copyright Agency (CA) in Australia aim to bolster cooperation, exchange expertise, and enhance the protection of reprographic rights for Emirati and Arab creative works on a global scale.

According to ERRA, the partnerships mark a key step in strengthening the legal framework that safeguards creative works beyond the UAE’s borders. The move will enable authors, publishers, and universities in the country to access global markets securely while ensuring the protection of their moral and material rights in both digital and educational environments.

Majd Al Shehhi, Director of the Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association, described the twin agreements as a “strategic milestone” in extending the protection of intellectual property worldwide.

“The signing of these two agreements reflects the Association’s dedication to empowering Emirati and Arab creators to access international markets safely and secure their intellectual rights in evolving digital and educational environments,” Al Shehhi said. “Building a strong network of international partnerships is the path towards a more sustainable and equitable creative ecosystem.”

She added that the move aligns with the Association’s vision to serve as a pioneering model in intellectual property management across the region — by offering legal licences that enable the lawful, fair, and sustainable sharing of knowledge.

The partnerships also underscore ERRA’s ongoing efforts to build an integrated rights management system grounded in transparency, fairness, and international cooperation, drawing on best practices through its membership in the IFRRO and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Dr Mohammed Mahmoud Al Kamali, Member of ERRA’s Board of Directors, hailed the agreements as a significant milestone that reinforces international confidence in the UAE’s leadership in safeguarding authors’ rights.

“International cooperation in reprographic rights management has become essential to ensure the integration of legal systems and the exchange of expertise in protecting the rights of authors and publishers,” Dr Al Kamali said.

He added that the Association continues to expand its global network in support of the UAE’s vision to advance the creative economy and establish intellectual property protection as a cornerstone of sustainable cultural growth.

ERRA’s participation in the IFRRO World Congress, he noted, reflects the UAE’s ongoing commitment to positioning itself as a leading hub for creativity protection and innovation, through partnerships that foster a cultural and economic environment built on respect for intellectual work and appreciation for its creators.
