Dubai: In a landmark collaboration aimed at strengthening the UAE’s automotive safety framework, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), Dubai Chambers, AW Rostamani Group, Nissan Middle East, and the Dubai Business Group Auto Parts & Accessories have convened a dedicated workshop to advance the implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. 12 of 2018 on vehicle spare parts regulation.
The workshop outlined the key requirements of the resolution and highlighted the critical role of conformity assessment schemes in ensuring that spare parts sold in the UAE comply with national safety standards. The discussions focused on safeguarding essential vehicle components such as brakes, seat belts, and lighting systems all vital to road safety.
Aligned with the UAE’s Operation 300bn strategy, which aims to increase the industrial sector’s contribution to GDP to AED 300 billion by 2031, the initiative reinforces the country’s position as a global hub for quality, innovation, and industrial excellence.
Strengthening Quality and Safety Standards
Dr. Farah Al Zarooni, Assistant Undersecretary for the Standardization Affairs Sector at MoIAT, underscored the UAE’s progress in building a robust and future-ready quality infrastructure that supports sustainable industrial growth and consumer safety.
She noted that the UAE advanced its ranking from 11th to 5th place globally in the 2024 Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development Index (UNIDO) in Group L, reflecting the nation’s leadership in technical regulations and conformity assessment.
“Maintaining a robust, efficient, and economically sustainable regulatory ecosystem is key to ensuring the safety and competitiveness of products in both local and global markets,” Dr. Al Zarooni said.
Under Cabinet Resolution No. 12 of 2018, the UAE’s mandatory system for vehicle spare parts has achieved notable milestones with 88 companies representing 184 brands from 68 countries now certified, and 3,475 conformity certificates issued for more than 81,000 products.
She added that these achievements underscore strong collaboration between MoIAT and industry partners, whose joint efforts enhance consumer confidence and uphold national safety standards.

Industry Leaders Voice Commitment
Maha Al Gargawi, Vice President of Business Advocacy at Dubai Chambers, said the collaboration reflects Dubai Chambers’ commitment to raising industry standards and protecting consumer trust.
“The UAE’s automotive sector is expanding rapidly, and with growth comes the responsibility to ensure that every spare part meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance,” she said. “By bringing together policymakers and the private sector, we are helping to eliminate counterfeits and boost the competitiveness and sustainability of the industry.”
From the private sector, Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional Vice President and President for the Middle East, KSA, and CIS at Nissan and INFINITI, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to quality and safety.
“At Nissan, safety and quality are of utmost importance. This collaboration with MoIAT, Dubai Chambers, and AW Rostamani Group underscores the power of public-private partnerships in protecting consumers and reinforcing the UAE’s leadership in automotive safety,” he said.
Tom Fux, CEO of AW Rostamani Automotive, said the initiative strengthens the UAE’s reputation as a leader in automotive safety and industrial excellence.
“Beyond compliance, this reflects the importance of open dialogue between the public and private sectors to build greater trust and ensure a safer future for every driver and community we serve,” he said.
Yousef Abu Alaish, Director of Aftersales at AWR Automotive and Chairman of the Dubai Business Group Auto Parts & Accessories, added that such gatherings are crucial for aligning public and private sector goals.
“They promote regulatory compliance while supporting the UAE’s national vision for safety, innovation, and sustainable growth,” he said.
Shared Responsibility in the ‘Year of Community’
Framed within the Year of Community, declared by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the workshop was recognized as more than a regulatory exercise — it was a demonstration of shared national responsibility and collective progress.
The partners concluded with a unified call to action for all industry stakeholders to align with national safety standards, ensure the authenticity of vehicle parts, and reinforce consumer trust.
By championing collaboration and quality assurance, the UAE continues to raise the bar for automotive safety — protecting lives and setting new global benchmarks in the process.
