AJMAN: Gulf Medical University (GMU), founded by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, brought its global community together last evening as hundreds of graduates from around the world returned to Thumbay Medicity, Ajman, for the Alumni Summit 2025. The event served as a powerful reminder of the GMU alumni’s expansive journey—professionally, geographically, and their significant role in shaping the region’s healthcare landscape.
The night commenced with a warm welcome from the university leadership, followed by an address from Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University. He highlighted the university’s expanding global footprint and the increasing influence of its alumni network. Prof. Venkatramana emphasized GMU’s commitment to strengthening collaboration, mentorship, and international engagement, ensuring a strong, lifelong connection for its graduates.
Reunions and Recognition
A core feature of the summit was a special reunion segment involving GMU’s first two batches, creating an emotional moment for the community. Alumni shared compelling stories of their professional milestones, the early days of the university, and the foundational role GMU’s training continues to play in their careers today.
A key highlight was the unveiling of the 27th GMU ICON Book, commemorating the university’s 27-year milestone. The book honors distinguished alumni who have excelled across various fields, including medicine, research, public health, entrepreneurship, and community impact.

Global Reach Amplified
Further demonstrating GMU’s global reach, leaders introduced the university’s rapidly expanding International Alumni Chapters, now active in regions including the US, UK, India, Germany, Bahrain, and Poland.
The summit also paid tribute to outstanding achievers with a series of awards and mementos presented to ICONs, chapter heads, panelists, and emerging alumni who have made notable contributions in their fields. This ceremony reinforced GMU’s culture of excellence and the robust alumni network that continues to grow yearly.
A Community That Supports Across Borders
Dr. Omar Nabi, President of the GMU Alumni Association Board, spoke passionately about the importance of building a community that offers support across borders and specialties. He noted that the Alumni Association is focused on strengthening mentorship and fostering greater opportunities for collaboration within GMU’s vast network.
A laser show, interactive games, and networking sessions added a dynamic atmosphere to the night, allowing graduates to reconnect with friends, faculty, and former classmates. The evening culminated in a celebratory dinner, bringing together generations of graduates in an atmosphere of celebration and gratitude.
The Alumni Summit 2025 firmly reaffirmed the institution’s belief: students may graduate, but they never truly leave. GMU’s legacy continues to thrive through its alumni, who are shaping healthcare systems worldwide, driven by the university’s spirit of knowledge, compassion, and service.
