News DeskAbu Dhabi, UAE – VOX Cinemas has unveiled a next-generation IMAX® auditorium at Yas Mall, reinforcing its position as the leading IMAX exhibitor in the Middle East and elevating the capital’s premium entertainment offering.
The newly upgraded IMAX auditorium features the largest screen at Yas Mall, measuring 23.2 metres wide, with a floor-to-ceiling viewing experience powered by IMAX with Laser projection. The advanced technology delivers ultra-bright, ultra-sharp visuals with enhanced colour and contrast, alongside a 12-channel immersive sound system designed to place audiences at the centre of the action.
The launch aligns with the regional release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, giving filmgoers the opportunity to experience one of the most anticipated releases of the year in a format designed to make every story feel bigger.
Owned and operated by Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, VOX Cinemas now operates 15 IMAX locations across seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa, offering more than 4,100 high-end seats across the region.

John Schreiner, Senior Vice President of theatre development for EMEA at IMAX, described the reopening as a key milestone in the partnership between the two companies. He said audiences in Abu Dhabi would now be able to enjoy IMAX’s signature crystal-clear image and immersive sound “with a powerhouse slate of titles through the rest of the year and across 2026”.
The IMAX with Laser system also supports energy efficiency and long-term performance, reflecting IMAX’s sustainability commitments. All films screened in the upgraded auditorium undergo IMAX’s proprietary Digital Media Remastering (DMR®) process to ensure enhanced clarity and impact in line with filmmakers’ intentions.
The IMAX launch forms part of a wider refurbishment of VOX Cinemas at Yas Mall. Eleven standard screens have been upgraded to the Premier format, featuring modern glider and recliner seating, while the existing MAX auditorium has also received a Premier seating upgrade.
VOX’s luxury THEATRE concept is being expanded as part of the transformation, with the 4DX auditorium set to be remodelled into an additional THEATRE screen, adding 36 premium seats. Common areas, including the foyer and Candy Bar, are also being refreshed to deliver a consistent, elevated guest experience throughout the cinema complex.
