Dubai, UAE – Indian boxer Neeraj Goyat was involved in a tense backstage altercation following his victory at Misfits Boxing 23 in Dubai on December 20, prompting swift intervention from his manager Vipin Gulia to prevent the situation from escalating.

The incident unfolded in the medical room shortly after Goyat secured a unanimous decision win over American opponent Anthony Taylor. According to eyewitnesses, what appeared to be an attempt at a post-fight handshake quickly turned confrontational, with Taylor allegedly throwing a water bottle at Goyat.

Gulia stepped in immediately, positioning himself between the two fighters as security personnel moved to separate them.

“When Taylor entered the medical room with visible aggression, I intervened without hesitation,” Gulia said. “My priority is Neeraj’s safety. Recovery areas must remain secure and free from provocation.”

Goyat dominated the six-round bout with sharp footwork and effective combinations, earning judges’ scores of 59–55, 58–56 and 60–54. Tensions reportedly rose when Goyat declined Taylor’s handshake, leading to a verbal exchange before the object was thrown.

Gulia stressed the need for stricter security measures at combat sports events. “Fighters should never be placed in vulnerable situations outside the ring. Promoters must ensure protected spaces for medical checks and recovery,” he said.

Goyat emerged unharmed from the incident and remains focused on his international career. The win takes his professional record to 20 wins, four losses and two draws, with discussions underway regarding his next global outing.

Misfits Boxing has yet to issue an official statement on the incident or the reported security lapse.
