Dubai: Hotpack, the UAE-based global leader in sustainable packaging solutions, has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship by leading a mangrove planting initiative at the Al Zora Mangrove Reserve in Ajman, bringing together employees from across the country for a hands-on conservation effort.

Organised in collaboration with Companies for Good, a Dubai-based social enterprise supporting impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, the initiative was conducted under Hotpack Happiness — the company’s employee engagement programme focused on building a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

The event highlighted how employee wellbeing and corporate responsibility can converge to create meaningful ecological impact, while contributing directly to the UAE’s long-term sustainability objectives.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Jebbar, Group CEO and Managing Director of Hotpack, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief that sustainability must be translated into action.

“At Hotpack, sustainability isn’t just a principle — it’s something we live by. This mangrove planting initiative aligns with the UAE’s long-term vision for conservation, a journey initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It also supports the pledge made at COP26 to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030,” he said.

Zainudeen PB, Group COO and Executive Director, said the company intends to make mangrove conservation an annual feature of its CSR programme.

“This initiative demonstrates the power of collective action. Our employees take pride in contributing to a sustainability journey that extends beyond the workplace and fosters a strong sense of purpose,” he said.

Anwar PB, Group CTO and Executive Director, noted that the experience offered employees both education and inspiration.

“Volunteers received safety training before travelling by kayak and dragon boats to designated planting sites. Working directly in the waterlogged terrain gave participants first-hand insight into the challenging conditions in which mangroves thrive,” he said.

Mangroves are vital to the region’s ecosystem, acting as powerful natural carbon sinks while protecting coastlines from erosion. In the UAE, mangrove forests span more than 150 square kilometres, serving as a natural green lung for cities including Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman. Each mature mangrove tree can absorb around 12.3 kilograms of carbon dioxide annually.

Hotpack said the initiative marks the first phase of a long-term environmental programme, reinforcing the company’s commitment to safeguarding natural resources while delivering measurable and lasting impact for future generations.
