Dubai, UAE – Global public health leaders, policymakers and industry experts gathered at the World Health Expo (WHX) in Dubai have underscored the urgent need to strengthen public health resilience through smarter policymaking, data-driven governance and enhanced international cooperation.

The four-day global event, running from February 9 to 12 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, has brought together key stakeholders to explore innovative strategies for improving population health, strengthening preparedness and ensuring the long-term sustainability of healthcare systems worldwide.

During high-level discussions at the Public Health Conference, part of WHX’s wider programme, experts highlighted how advancements in digital technologies, data systems and value-based healthcare models are helping governments develop more responsive and prevention-focused public health frameworks.

Recent global data reinforces the importance of continued investment in public health. According to the OECD’s Health at a Glance 2025 report, healthcare spending across OECD nations remains strong at approximately 9.3 per cent of GDP in 2024, reflecting sustained post-pandemic prioritisation. Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work (2025–2028) emphasises the need for improved health equity, stronger national health systems and better preparedness for future crises.

Experts at WHX stressed that effective public health strategies must prioritise clear communication with diverse communities, particularly during times of uncertainty. They noted that data should not only inform policy decisions but also help tailor communication strategies that reflect social, cultural and demographic differences.

Prof Mahmood Adil, Ministerial Adviser at Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health and Clinical Professor at Qatar University, highlighted the importance of empowering frontline workers and policymakers with data-driven insights. He said understanding social determinants enables authorities to design adaptive communication strategies that effectively reassure and engage communities.

The conference also stressed the importance of scientific independence in public health leadership. Duncan Selbie, President of the International Association for Public Health Institutes and Chief Advisor at Saudi Arabia’s Public Health Authority, said credibility and public trust are strengthened when leaders rely on evidence and maintain transparency about uncertainties while operating within political environments.

Alongside policy dialogue, WHX is serving as a global platform for showcasing healthcare innovations addressing real-world challenges. The event is expected to host over 4,300 international exhibitors and attract more than 235,000 professional visits from over 180 countries.

Among the major exhibitors, GE HealthCare is unveiling more than 20 precision care technologies, including cloud-based and artificial intelligence-powered solutions designed to enhance diagnostic accuracy, improve clinical workflows and support data-driven decision-making.

The UK Pavilion is showcasing the PinPoint Test, an AI-enabled multi-cancer blood test developed in collaboration with England’s National Health Service. The test uses machine learning and routine blood biomarkers to support early cancer detection and reduce strain on healthcare systems. Meanwhile, Skafit Medical is presenting advanced medical textiles incorporating silver-fiber technology aimed at improving care for patients with chronic skin and circulatory conditions.

Ross Williams, Commercial Director at Informa Markets Healthcare, said WHX provides a unique platform where policy discussions meet practical healthcare innovation. He noted that emerging technologies demonstrated at the event are playing a crucial role in transforming diagnostics, care delivery and overall health system performance globally.

The World Health Expo continues to position Dubai as a leading global hub for healthcare collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange, supporting international efforts to build stronger, future-ready public health systems.
