Dubai, UAE: Careem has introduced a new community-driven initiative, Seeds For Gaza, aimed at mobilising humanitarian support and long-term rebuilding efforts in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign allows Careem users to contribute through several simple actions within the app. Customers can make donations directly via Careem’s in-app “Donate” platform, which connects users with trusted humanitarian partners operating on the ground. In addition, all profits from watermelon purchases on Careem Quik and sales of the specially designed Seeds For Gaza t-shirt will be directed entirely toward relief efforts.
More than 100 restaurants on Careem Food have also joined the initiative, including Al Safadi, Maiz Tacos, and Bait el Khtyar, pledging to allocate a portion of selected orders to support the campaign.
Mudassir Sheikha, Careem’s CEO and Co-founder, said the initiative reflects a shared regional responsibility to stand with communities in need. He noted that Seeds For Gaza was designed to make giving accessible for customers, partners, and brands alike, adding that small individual contributions can collectively drive meaningful impact for those affected.
Drawing inspiration from the Arabic language, where a single dot can alter meaning, the campaign reinterprets these dots as watermelon seeds — a symbol widely associated with Palestinian resilience. Careem has incorporated the seed motif into its branding across platforms, positioning the visual as both a gesture of solidarity and a call to action.
The initiative is also encouraging wider participation from organisations across the region. Early collaborators include The Big Heart Foundation, while brands such as Tabby, Justlife, Washmen, Wamda Capital, Venture Souq, and FitRepublik have adopted the campaign’s visual identity and supported relief efforts through contributions.

To expand engagement, Careem has released an open-license Seeds For Gaza typeface in both Arabic and English, allowing individuals and organisations to embed the watermelon seed symbol into their own messaging. A complementary “Seeds in Your Name” digital generator has also been launched, enabling users to personalise their names with the seed design and share them on social media as expressions of support.
The campaign builds on Careem’s broader social impact work across the region. In 2025, the platform facilitated more than USD 700,000 in donations spanning emergency response, education programmes, and community initiatives.
Seeds For Gaza is now active across Careem’s platforms, with customers, partners, and organisations invited to participate via the Careem app or the campaign website.
