Dubai: Dubai Basketball guard McKinley Wright IV has been named EuroLeague MVP of the Month for February after a standout run that helped power the club through an unbeaten stretch against some of the competition’s biggest names.
The 28-year-old American was at the heart of a perfect month for Dubai Basketball, as the team went 4–0 with statement wins at home over Olympiacos Piraeus and Real Madrid, a vital away victory against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, and a strong finish back in Dubai against LDLC ASVEL.
Wright didn’t just show up he set the tone. Across February, he averaged 14 points per game in just under 29 minutes a night, posting a Player Index Rating (PIR) of 18.75 and repeatedly delivering in key moments.
He opened the month with 18 points and a PIR of 21 against Olympiacos, followed by 16 points and a PIR of 18 against Real Madrid. In Milan, he filled the stat sheet in a gritty road win before producing his biggest performance of the month against ASVEL 16 points and a PIR of 27 a night that effectively sealed his MVP credentials.
Reacting to the honour, Wright kept the focus on faith and the people around him.
“This MVP of the month means a lot to me,” he said. “First, I want to give thanks to God for putting me in this position and allowing me to play this game… and blessing me with this opportunity.”
He added: “I’m thankful for my teammates and the coaching staff… It means a lot to be able to go 4–0 in the month of February. We’re trying to continue that so we can make a run for the playoffs and hopefully make a playoff push.”
Since arriving in Dubai, Wright has quickly become a fan favourite, lifting the arena with his speed, explosive drives, and ability to control the tempo. More importantly, he’s shown a knack for rising when the pressure is highest the kind of trait teams lean on when seasons start to tighten.
And while Wright earned the headline, February also underlined Dubai Basketball’s growing depth. Mfiondu Kabengele made a major impact with two games featuring PIR performances above 30 against Olympiacos and Milan, while Dwayne Bacon provided timely scoring including 21 points against Olympiacos and 18 against ASVEL highlighting just how many weapons this roster can call on.
For Dubai Basketball, Wright’s MVP award is more than individual recognition. It’s another sign the club’s first EuroLeague campaign is gathering serious momentum. With form rising at the right time, Dubai Basketball are pushing toward a top-10 finish a result that would secure a play-in spot in what is shaping up to be a debut season to remember.
