Abu Dhabi: SEHA, a subsidiary of PureHealth the Middle East’s largest healthcare group has successfully treated a highly complex kidney condition at Madinat Zayed Hospital (MZH), highlighting the hospital’s growing expertise in advanced and minimally invasive medical care.
The case involved a 52-year-old woman who was diagnosed with a large angiomyolipoma (AML) tumour in her right kidney. The condition was further complicated by multiple aneurysms and a high-flow arteriovenous malformation (AVM), making the case particularly challenging.
Following a detailed medical assessment, the hospital’s multidisciplinary team developed a personalised treatment strategy in close consultation with the patient. The plan carefully considered all available treatment options before proceeding with an advanced interventional radiology procedure.
Using a technique known as coil embolisation, doctors were able to precisely block the blood vessels feeding the tumour while preserving the surrounding healthy kidney tissue. The minimally invasive procedure proved successful, and the patient was discharged in excellent condition, demonstrating both the safety and effectiveness of the approach.
Dr. Hazem M. Almasarei, Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Madinat Zayed Hospital, said the outcome reflects the precision and expertise of the medical team.
“Interventional radiology allows us to treat complex conditions with greater accuracy while reducing pain, complications and recovery time compared with traditional surgery,” he explained. “For patients facing challenging diagnoses like this, these advanced techniques can make a significant difference.”
The successful treatment reinforces SEHA’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred healthcare across the Al Dhafra region. It also underscores Madinat Zayed Hospital’s expanding role in adopting innovative, minimally invasive procedures supported by advanced medical technology.
