Dubai, UAE – In alignment with World Diabetes Day 2023, P&G Health, the makers of Neurobion, have launched an innovative #KnowtheSigns campaign aimed at raising awareness about the connection between Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes, Peripheral Neuropathy (PN), and Vitamin B Deficiency. The campaign emphasizes the importance of early detection, treatment, and improved quality of life for individuals affected by these conditions.
Peripheral Neuropathy, particularly Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN), is a common consequence of Diabetes Mellitus, impacting the lives of those affected by it. Symptoms include numbness, tingling, prickling, and burning sensations in the hands and feet. High-risk factors for developing PN include B vitamin deficiency, aging, and diabetes. Shockingly, many individuals with Peripheral Neuropathy remain undiagnosed and untreated, with up to 80% going unrecognized, as reported in studies from various countries.
In the United Arab Emirates, approximately 34-35% of the population with diabetes suffers from Peripheral Neuropathy, underscoring the severity of the issue. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia ranks second in the Middle East and seventh globally for the prevalence of diabetes, with over 65% of diabetic patients in the country experiencing Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy.
Tarek Abdelaziz, General Manager at P&G Health, Middle East, stressed the significance of the campaign, revealing that an estimated 1 in 2 Diabetics and 1 in 10 Pre-diabetics may suffer from Peripheral Neuropathy. Vitamin B Deficiency affects about 19% of all people with diabetes, impacting their quality of life. Abdelaziz highlighted the lack of awareness as a significant barrier to early diagnosis and effective treatment, resulting in a negative impact on the quality of life. He noted that the Neurobion #KnowtheSigns campaign leverages Artificial Intelligence to make these invisible conditions visible and relatable to consumers, aiming to educate people about the importance of early diagnoses and how it can lead to better treatment outcomes, including nerve regeneration in some cases.
The campaign includes a virtual ‘See what they feel’ Photo Exhibit, which uses Artificial Intelligence to bring real-life patient experiences to life, helping consumers identify early signs of nerve damage and vitamin B deficiency. P&G Health is also collaborating with pharmacy chains in Saudi Arabia and the UAE to create awareness, especially among diabetics, about the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of Neuropathy. They emphasize the role of B Vitamins like Neurobion in relieving symptoms of tingling and numbness while supporting healthy nerves.
The Neurobion #KnowtheSigns campaign is a significant step toward raising health awareness about these conditions in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, shedding light on daily struggles and symptoms faced by those affected, and advocating for early detection and treatment to improve the quality of life for individuals with Peripheral Neuropathy.
