Dubai Police Hosts Advanced “Deep Fake” Course

Dubai, UAE – The Dubai Police, through its International Center for Forensic Sciences, has organized an advanced course aimed at bolstering the identification skills of law enforcement personnel in the realm of “Deep Fake” detection. This initiative underscores the force’s commitment to staying abreast of cutting-edge technologies, prioritizing scientific advancements in crime-solving, and furnishing material evidence to judicial authorities for the pursuit of justice in related cases.

Major General Ahmad Thani Bin Ghalita, Director of Dubai Police’s General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, emphasized the strategic importance of the course in alignment with the institution’s mission to lead in criminal scientific specialties. The effort is part of the broader vision guided by Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and overseen by Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs.

Dubai Police’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of scientific developments is reflected in the comprehensive scientific institution’s continuous efforts to conduct workshops and specialized courses. The General Department of Forensic Sciences and Criminology plays a pivotal role in crime detection by providing essential physical evidence to judicial authorities.

Lt Col Rashed Lootah, Director of the Forensic Digital Department at Dubai Police, underscored the significance of the course for experts and technicians in dealing with cybercrimes. In the era of rapid digital advancements, the course aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to identify and address cybercrimes that pose threats to community safety and security.

The course, conducted by Professor Anderson Rocha from Campinas University in Brazil, focuses on combating deep fakes using the latest technologies. Lieutenant Colonel Dr Hamad Al Awar, Head of Video and Image Examination at Dubai Police’s Forensic E-evidence Department, highlighted the importance of the training and its potential for fostering future collaboration in forensic evidence examination between Campinas University and Dubai Police. Prof Rocha, renowned as one of the world’s leading experts in examining forged visual materials, shared insights aimed at enhancing the skills of Dubai Police experts in tackling the challenges posed by deep fakes.
