Dubai Police and RTA Distribute Safety Gear to Cyclists and Scooter Riders

Dubai, UAE – In a collaborative effort to enhance road safety, Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have successfully distributed safety gear to cyclists and electric scooter users in targeted areas across Dubai. The initiative, part of a broader strategy to promote traffic awareness and reduce accidents, focused on residential areas developed by Emaar and Nakheel.

Scope of the Campaign: The campaign involved the distribution of essential safety equipment, including helmets, reflective belts, and cycling water bottles, to cyclists and electric scooter riders. The selected areas, developed by prominent entities like Emaar and Nakheel, were chosen strategically to maximize impact.

Commitment to Road Safety: Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, emphasized the commitment of Dubai Police and RTA to spreading traffic awareness and reducing traffic-related incidents. The overarching goal is to ensure that all road users, including drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians, understand and fulfill their traffic responsibilities.

Enhancing Traffic Compliance: The initiative also aims to increase adherence to traffic rules, contributing to safer roads in Dubai. Major General Al Mazrouei highlighted the collaborative efforts of various entities in Dubai, working together to reduce traffic violations and accidents through extensive awareness campaigns.

Field Visits and Collaborations: Dubai Police, in collaboration with the RTA, conducted field visits and events across Dubai. These initiatives involved providing targeted motorists with safety tools and information on traffic safety requirements.

Joint Efforts for Bicycle-Friendly City: The RTA emphasized the importance of utilizing various media channels to convey traffic awareness messages, especially to the growing segment of cyclists and electric scooter users. These efforts align with “Dubai’s Bicycle-Friendly City Strategy” and involve collaborations with entities such as Emaar and Nakheel.

Statistics and Achievements: In 2023, the Traffic Department conducted over 96 awareness visits in different locations in Dubai, benefiting more than 3,400 cyclists and electric scooter users. These visits provided direct information on safety requirements and traffic advice to prevent accidents.

Public Call for Compliance: Dubai Police and RTA have urged the public to adhere to traffic safety regulations and designated areas for cycling and scootering. Emphasis was placed on the importance of following speed limits that vary by location, including 20 km/h in residential and beach areas, 30 km/h on Meydan Street and shared streets, with no speed restrictions on Seih Al Salam and Al Qudra tracks.
