Dubai, UAE – Dubai Police recently made history by organizing the first-ever arm wrestling championship for inmates as part of their commitment to creating a positive and rehabilitative environment within correctional facilities. The event, a collaboration between the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, Dubai Police’s ‘Positive Spirit’ initiative, and the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (EBBF), saw the participation of 70 inmates divided into weight categories.
Brigadier Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, highlighted the championship as an integral part of ongoing rehabilitation efforts. He emphasized the importance of such programs, activities, and events in fostering a healthy, social, sportive, and cultural atmosphere for inmates.
Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Community Happiness at Dubai Police, underlined the ‘Positive Spirit’ initiative’s broader goals in promoting values of tolerance and societal brotherhood. He stated that these activities contribute to a positive experience, benefiting inmates both physically and mentally.

He affirmed that such competitions for various community segments align with the federation’s objectives of promoting physical and mental sports culture, expanding the sports base, and attracting individuals with sporting talent and skills.
The ‘Positive Spirit’ initiative, beyond its focus on inmates, continues to contribute to community awareness through sports and recreational activities, aiming to strengthen communication channels between individuals and the police while promoting the awareness of Dubai Police’s traffic and criminal services.
