Dubai, UAE – Dubai’s Maritime Sector played a pivotal role in safeguarding nine maritime sites and overseeing 14 events during the New Year’s Eve festivities in 2024. A deployment of 16 maritime patrols, comprising 176 personnel and specialized divers from the Maritime Rescue and Maritime Security sections, contributed to the success of the security measures. In addition, 14 boats were provided by strategic partners of the Event Security Committee to enhance overall safety.
Head of the Maritime Sector in the Event Security Committee, Brigadier Hamouda Al Ameri, highlighted the proactive approach taken by the maritime sector in preparing sites 48 hours before the celebrations began. These efforts were in accordance with the directives of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, aiming to showcase Dubai’s organizational prowess in handling large-scale events and ensuring a rapid response to emergencies.
Joint patrols by the Maritime Security and Maritime Rescue teams, comprising skilled divers, boat drivers, Jet Ski operators, and cyclists, secured the maritime areas without any reported incidents during the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Al Ameri commended the active collaboration with strategic partners, emphasizing the role of the security plan in guaranteeing secure and joyful celebrations for spectators across the maritime areas.
The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services and Dubai Civil Defense each contributed four maritime boats, while Nakheel Properties provided six. Al Ameri acknowledged the efforts of two rescuers from the Ports Police Station stationed at the Burj Khalifa area, ready to respond to any incidents in the Dubai Mall Fountain area. The successful execution of the security plan and the collaborative efforts of all involved individuals contributed to enhancing Dubai’s reputation as a premier global tourist destination for hosting mega-events.
