Aayal QureshiDubai, UAE – During the 17th edition of the Dubai International Food Safety Conference, over 140 speakers engaged in discussions, emphasizing the significant link between climate change and food security. The event, organized by the Dubai Municipality in alignment with COP28, explored challenges facing global food systems and security through 80 workshops and sessions.
Dubai Municipality’s active participation in COP28 led to the launch of projects accelerating initiatives for climate action and food safety. H.E. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted the UAE’s vision to lead the Global Food Security Index by 2051. The conference showcased best practices, laboratory tests, and AI and data science technologies in the food sector.
An exclusive group of organizations participated, including the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, FAO, GFSI, USDA, and others. Panel discussions addressed Dubai’s role as a global hub for trade and innovation, emphasizing sustainability and global collaborations.
The event’s conclusion featured discussions on public and occupational health, safety, water quality, and consumer product safety. Dubai Municipality launched the ‘DM Food Elite’ initiative to recognize organizations adhering to food safety, environmental sustainability, and innovation.
The conference attracted international experts, including Professor Dr. Aijaz Hussain Soomro from Sindh Agriculture University, Pakistan, discussing food security in flood-prone areas. Dr. Aasia Akbar Panhwar presented research on cleaning pesticides from bitter gourd, offering a unique solution to address a significant threat to food security.
The Dubai International Food Safety Conference has established itself as a global platform for exchanging knowledge, innovations, and experiences, focusing on challenges in the food sector and global variables impacting the industry.
