Dubai, UAE – The world’s elite luxury consumers are embracing oceanic experiences like never before, with a particular emphasis on eco-consciousness. At the Dubai Boat Show Leisure Yachting Conference, industry leaders gathered to emphasize the importance of sustainability in luxury yacht manufacturing. The conference, serving as a precursor to the Dubai International Boat Show, brought together over 250 key figures from the marine industry to delve into topics ranging from innovation to regulation and sustainability.

Eric Althaus, Managing Partner of Althaus Yachts, emphasized the shift in consumer values towards eco-consciousness. He highlighted the appeal of eco-friendly yachts equipped with features such as hybrid electric propulsion and sustainable materials, catering to a younger demographic seeking global exploration while minimizing their environmental impact.

Dr. Mariem Nasraoui, R&D Director at ChromaMe Air & Surface Nano Tech, stressed the pivotal role of technology in advancing sustainability within the luxury yachting sector. Innovations such as eco-friendly propulsion systems and energy-efficient technologies are expected to reduce the environmental footprint while maintaining luxury standards.

Figen Ayan, Chief Port Officer of Galataport Istanbul and MedCruise, praised the collaborative efforts behind initiatives like the Dubai Reef, the world’s largest artificial reef. She highlighted the trend towards holistic, eco-conscious experiences in marine tourism, reflecting a shift towards sustainability in post-pandemic travel preferences.

The conference featured speakers from various sectors, including Abeer AlShaali of Gulf Craft and Yousuf Lootah of the Dubai Department of Economy & Tourism. These industry leaders discussed the Gulf region’s rising prominence in the yachting world, fueled by sustainable government initiatives and landmark projects like the Dubai Reef.

The Dubai International Boat Show, following the conference, promises to showcase the latest innovations in luxury yachting, with over 1,000 brands from 55 countries and 200 boats on display. Alongside regional and global boat launches, the event offers a range of activities for the marine community and families, solidifying Dubai’s status as a premier destination for marine lifestyle enthusiasts.
