Abu Dhabi, UAE – Zayed International Airport has reached a significant milestone by processing over one million passengers through its new terminal since its opening on November 15, 2023. This achievement highlights the airport’s commitment to enhancing travel efficiency and security with state-of-the-art biometric technology.
IDEMIA, a leader in biometric solutions, has been instrumental in this advancement, having worked with the UAE since 2011. The implementation of the world’s first multi-biometric entry/exit system at Abu Dhabi Airport has improved border security and passenger throughput, leading to its expansion to other international airports in the country.
The Single Token Journey (STJ) solution, a key feature of this initiative, uses facial recognition technology to provide a seamless travel experience. Passengers are assigned a unique digital identifier, reducing the need for multiple documents and enabling a swift journey from curb to gate in just 12 minutes.
Elena Sorlini, MD and CEO of Zayed International Airport, expressed pride in the initial rollout of biometrics, which is set to make Abu Dhabi the first airport globally to integrate biometrics at every stage of the travel process.
Osama Al Makhamreh, Vice President of Sales for the Middle East & Africa at IDEMIA Public Security, remarked on the transformative impact of their biometric solutions, emphasizing the scalability, security, and efficiency of the STJ solution.
The successful implementation of the STJ solution at Zayed International Airport is a pioneering step in transforming air travel in the Middle East and beyond, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a technological hub and leader in passenger facilitation.
