Kabul, Afghanistan – Kandahar Province is set to host the first-ever Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup, starting April 16, right after Eid Al Fitr celebrations. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has unveiled this new tournament as a key addition to the domestic cricket calendar.

The competition will see five regional teams Mis-e-Ainak, Band-e-Amir, Speenghar, Amo, and Bost—clash in a fast-paced T20 format. Over 12 days, a total of 21 games will be played, with each team facing the others twice in a double round-robin format. The top two teams will then compete in the Grand Finale on April 27.

Designed to hone the skills of national-level players, the Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup also aims to integrate emerging cricketers from the High-Performance Camp (HPC), domestic contracted players, and standout performers from the ACB’s development programs. This strategic move is part of the ACB’s preparation for the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024.

Initially planned for later in the year, the tournament has been rescheduled to April to ensure the national team is optimally prepared for the T20 World Cup. The ACB had considered the 9th edition of the Shpageeza Cricket League for this period but decided to prioritize the National T20 Cup due to logistical challenges.

Mohammad Nazeem Jaar Abdulrahimzai, ACB Domestic Cricket Manager, highlighted the tournament’s significance, stating, “The Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup will greatly integrate senior players with the juniors, which helps in skill-building and contributes to the overall development of the game in the region.”

The ACB is committed to providing comprehensive match-time preparation for the national team, which is crucial for their success at the upcoming ICC event. The Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup is expected to enrich Afghanistan’s domestic cricket landscape and foster the growth of the sport throughout the country.
