Dubai, UAE – Dubai’s prominent supermarket chain Choithrams has partnered with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, to deliver essential medical care to thousands of individuals grappling with dire circumstances in the region. The collaborative effort, titled the “Give Gaza Goodness” campaign, aims to extend crucial medical interventions to those in urgent need amidst the challenging situation in Gaza.
From March 20th to May 15th, 2024, Choithram International Foundation will pledge donations towards medical interventions for every purchase of select Goodness Foods products adorned with special stickers. These products will be available at all 39 Choithrams stores across Dubai, as well as online on Choithrams.com and various food delivery apps.
The initiative comes at a critical time when approximately 1.7 million individuals, constituting three-quarters of Gaza’s residents, are enduring perilous and uninhabitable conditions. The displacement of populations has exacerbated the situation, leading to alarming levels of psychological distress, particularly among women and children.
L.T. Pagarani, Chairman of Choithrams Group, emphasized the significance of providing relief through medical interventions, stating, “As we commemorate 50 years of service to the people of UAE, the ‘Give Gaza Goodness’ campaign in support of MSF activities gives us yet another opportunity to partner with our customers and stakeholders and make a meaningful contribution together.”
Generous donations from the public through the purchase of over 100 Goodness Foods products marked with special stickers are expected to significantly contribute to short and medium-term relief efforts. For MSF, the ability to swiftly respond to medical humanitarian emergencies is paramount in saving lives.
Khalid Elsheikh, Executive Director of MSF UAE, issued a heartfelt appeal for support, stating, “In these challenging times, Gaza’s population faces imminent risks and medical needs. We humbly appeal for the compassion and kindness of Choithrams’ customers to join us in supporting this campaign.”
Choithrams has a history of supporting various MSF projects in the Middle East and Africa. In February 2020, their contributions aided thousands in war-affected regions through MSF’s Antibiotic Stewardship Programme in Amman. Additionally, Choithrams’ Ramadan campaign in 2021 provided hope to over 20,000 women in Malawi who were at risk of cervical cancer.
Through the collaborative efforts of Choithrams and MSF, hope and relief are being extended to the most vulnerable individuals in Gaza, offering essential medical and psychological assistance during their time of greatest need.
