Dubai, UAE – Dubai Opera has closed another successful season, setting a new attendance record with over 250,000 visitors, the highest since its opening in 2016. This achievement underscores Dubai Opera’s position as a leading cultural institution in the Middle East.
The 2023-2024 season featured a diverse range of over 100 productions and 200 performances, including opera, ballet, symphonic music, musicals, and concerts. The season was highlighted by the UAE premieres of the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala, MusicAeterna Orchestra, and Rome Opera Ballet, which received international acclaim.
The timeless musical ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ made a triumphant return, captivating audiences once again. The performance was particularly notable as the Phantom role was performed by an Arab lead for the first time, drawing more than 30,000 attendees. The season also saw the highly anticipated UAE debut of ‘Matilda’, enchanting audiences of all ages.
New initiatives introduced this season included Film Music Week, a programme celebrating the magic of film music, and the unveiling of the Dubai Opera Edition Piano by Steinway & Sons, a prestigious limited-edition piano honouring the seven emirates.
Dubai Opera also upgraded its Studio sound system to a state-of-the-art d&b system, ensuring exceptional sound quality for every performance. Additionally, a new partnership with Audi was established to further enrich the country’s cultural landscape.
Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera, reflected on the successful season, stating, “The past season has been a testament to Dubai Opera’s role as a ‘House of Cultures,’ and we are extremely proud to have set a new attendance record. This achievement demonstrates the growing appreciation and support for the arts in Dubai.”
Dubai Opera will begin announcing new shows for the upcoming season on June 10, with the final lineup to be revealed at a press conference on September 12. As it prepares for another season of spectacular performances, Dubai Opera reaffirms its commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of Dubai and the surrounding region.
