Dubai, UAE – The Sustainable City – Dubai has revealed a striking communal art mural made entirely from recycled plastic, marking the celebration of Plastic Free July. The mural, a collaborative effort involving residents, students from Fairgreen International School, and Sanad Village, was created using plastic collected by Tadweer Waste Management.

This initiative aims to promote sustainability, foster creativity, and strengthen community bonds. The artwork will be prominently displayed on a central community wall in The Sustainable City Plaza throughout July, serving as a visual reminder of the ongoing fight against plastic pollution.

The Sustainable City has long been at the forefront of environmental initiatives. Since 2019, shops in the Plaza have successfully implemented a single-use plastic-free policy, significantly reducing the community’s plastic footprint. The city has also championed innovative repurposing efforts, with playgrounds and an animal sanctuary constructed using repurposed construction waste.

These efforts align with Dubai’s broader environmental strategy. The city recently introduced a comprehensive ban on single-use bags, including plastic, paper, and biodegradable varieties. This ban is part of a larger plan to phase out other single-use plastic items such as straws, cups, cutlery, and food containers by 2026.

The mural unveiling highlights The Sustainable City’s commitment to fostering an educational culture that encourages residents and visitors to engage with environmental issues. Through such initiatives, the community continues to lead by example in the pursuit of sustainable urban living.
