Geneva – SITA, a leading provider of air transport technology solutions, has announced its partnership with Shanghai Pudong International Airport to implement advanced passenger verification and check-in solutions. This initiative aims to significantly enhance the traveler experience at China’s busiest international hub.

The partnership involves the installation of SITA’s common-use self-service bag drops (SBD) and kiosks, specifically catering to Pudong Airport’s foreign airlines and their passengers. In total, 52 kiosks and 14 SBDs will be deployed across the airport. These installations will enable international passengers to check in early, independently, and efficiently, circumventing long queues and reducing congestion within the terminal.

With half of Pudong Airport’s total passenger traffic consisting of international travelers, and a predicted increase in flights and passenger numbers as international routes reopen post-pandemic, the need for faster and easier operations is paramount. The newly deployed self-service options are set to streamline the check-in and verification process, offering a seamless and stress-free experience for travelers.

Looking ahead, SITA and Pudong Airport will collaborate further to enhance the end-to-end self-service offerings in a low-touch, safe environment, aligning with the airport’s digital transformation strategy.

Sumesh Patel, President of SITA APAC, commented on the collaboration: “As air travel booms globally, and airports see a massive surge in travelers, there is an increased need for technology that can speed up the boarding process, reducing delays and traffic for passengers. With this collaboration, Pudong Airport gains SITA’s leading self-service solutions, tailored to bring a streamlined journey to international travelers. As always, we are committed to optimizing the global passenger experience with exceptional technology-driven solutions.”
