Harare – The picturesque Harare Sports Club is abuzz with excitement as the second edition of the Zim Afro T10 gets underway, featuring some of the biggest names in world cricket. Among them, Australian powerhouse David Warner, known for his explosive batting, is set to take center stage, but Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza hopes the local talent will steal the limelight.

Raza, optimistic about the tournament’s quality, expressed his excitement about the presence of international stars while emphasizing the importance of Zimbabwean players stepping up. “We’ve attracted a lot more international cricketers, with the likes of David Warner being one of the main signings this season. It’s going to be a very exciting tournament,” said Raza. He added, “But more importantly, I’m hoping that it’s a Zimbabwean who scores the most runs, takes the most catches, and claims the most wickets. The growth of Zimbabwean cricket in this tournament is crucial.”

While Warner and other international stars like Dawid Malan, James Neesham, and Colin Munro are big names, Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani has made a mark by being picked as the Global Icon for NYS Lagos. Raza was full of praise for the fast bowler. “I’m really happy and proud of Blessing. He’s done really well over the past year and earned that right. As long as there is Zimbabwean representation, it makes me happy.”

Reflecting on his own performance and goals, Raza, who was a standout in the inaugural season, said, “Cricket is a team game, but filled with individual brilliance. If I can contribute to winning the trophy, that would be the best thing.”

Addressing Zimbabwe’s younger cricketers, Raza offered some advice: “Enjoy as much as you can, and learn from the overseas players. They’re here for only 9-10 days, so make the most of it.”

Looking at the bigger picture, Raza believes the T10 format has a bright future, even suggesting it could help cricket gain inclusion in the Olympics. “T10 is a format that can definitely take cricket to the Olympic Games,” he asserted.

With international talent in the mix and a clear vision for Zimbabwean cricket, the second edition of the Zim Afro T10 promises thrilling action and the potential to boost the sport locally.
