News DeskAbu Dhabi, UAE – Experience Abu Dhabi and Red Bull athlete Sebastian Álvarez have made history with a world-first skydive-to-surf jump at Surf Abu Dhabi. This incredible stunt not only shattered global records but also introduced a unique new venue to the region.
The event, captured on film, featured Chilean extreme sports athlete Álvarez skydiving from a Bell 212 helicopter at an altitude of 3,657 meters. Strapped to a modified surfboard, Álvarez executed a sky surfing maneuver over Hudayriyat Island before deploying his parachute to land on a 2.3-meter (7.5-foot) wave at Surf Abu Dhabi. This facility is now recognized as the world’s newest and largest wave park.
Reflecting on the achievement, Álvarez expressed, “It’s incredibly special to perform this project here in Abu Dhabi. I consider this technology, the wave, as one of the most amazing things that humans have created. Achieving this today means the world to me. It has felt like entering into the unknown, doing something that nobody has ever attempted before. It really is a dream come true.”
Surf Abu Dhabi promises to be a major attraction for surfers and adventure enthusiasts worldwide, offering year-round wave riding regardless of weather conditions. The venue boasts the world’s longest ride, largest barrel, and highest man-made wave, catering to both experienced surfers and those seeking to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Looking ahead, Abu Dhabi is set to host the 2025 Championship Tour and the third stop of the 2024 World Surf League Longboard Tour. This will mark the first time the region hosts such prestigious surfing events, offering fans the opportunity to witness top longboarders compete at the highest level.
