Dubai: Dubai Airports, the operator of Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC), has signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Community Development Authority (CDA) to enhance inclusivity for travellers with visible and hidden disabilities. The MoU was formalized at the AccessAbilities Expo, a leading event dedicated to accessibility and inclusivity.
The agreement, signed by H.E. Jamal Al-Hai, Deputy CEO of Dubai Airports, and Miatha Al Shamsi, CEO of the Community Empowerment Sector at CDA, marks a pivotal step in making air travel more accessible and enjoyable for people of determination (POD). The signing was witnessed by H.E. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of CDA, along with senior officials from both organizations and the wider aviation community.
Under the partnership, Dubai Airports and CDA will collaborate to identify key accessibility needs, implement effective solutions, and drive long-term social change. The initiative is expected to set new standards for accessibility in the global aviation industry.
Jamal Al-Hai emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “This MoU represents our joint effort to break down barriers and shape a future where air travel is accessible for everyone.” H.E. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid added, “We are proud to collaborate with Dubai Airports to ensure that Dubai is a city where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive.”
The partnership will integrate CDA’s Sanad communication platform, which supports travellers with hearing disabilities by connecting them to sign language specialists via video calls. Dubai Airports will also adopt the Sanad Smart Card, offering tailored services and privileges for people with disabilities. Additionally, a joint calendar of events, enhanced staff training, and inclusive airport design initiatives will further support POD travellers.
Dubai Airports has already introduced several initiatives, including the Sunflower Lanyard programme, which discreetly identifies guests with hidden disabilities, and autism-friendly routes. Other services include wheelchair assistance, dedicated parking, and customised pre-travel planners.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s mission to promote inclusivity and ensure a seamless travel experience for all.
